5 Amazing Upcoming Content – Project Zomboid B42

Project Zomboid Build 42 is currently under development and it will be a game changer. No, like literally, the game will change a lot as some of the additions and adjustments made by the devs, I think, will really increase the player’s overall experience when playing the game, in a very good way.

The magic of Project Zomboid!

By the time of this post being written, Project Zomboid is in Build 41.78 and it already has good graphics and performance, a lot of amazing content, the game’s architecture and structure contains elements that keep PZ in a very good spot when it comes to making a much more ‘closer to reality’ survival game.

Project Zomboid Build 42

Factors like Hunger, Fatigue, Carrying items, injuries, character’s needs are way harsher in Project Zomboid, comparing to other survival games, but that’s the beauty of this game.

Even at the very beginning, when you start a new game, a “This is how you died” message appears and I think this is an accurate illustration in words on Project Zomboid overall. It may be the case that you will die after 30 years (in-game years), but most probably this will happen earlier. Way earlier.

You might be having a pretty good start of a run, by looting some stores, getting some tools, even finding a car with gas and keys and next day to get bitten by a zombie.

You might be in a scenario where you’ve built a strong base and hoarded useful items and consumables for 6 months and one day to miscalculate the distance and the amount of weight you are carrying from one house to your truck, get tired, aggro 3 zeds and Bye Bye 6 months run:)

Let’s be honest, until you learn the game and become better, the game will be pretty hard, especially for newbies, but, at the same time, in its current state I find Project Zomboid an enjoyable and challenging game.

Project Zomboid Build 42 Upcoming Content

Now let’s talk about Build 42. This is a big update to the overall game, as it will bring out some new features to our lovely Knox world.

We’re not going to be looking at each change or addition for B42, but rather a Top 5 Content overview, so let’s get started.

5. Fluid system

This is where you can start combining whiskey, beer and wine in Project Zomboid and see how your character physically reacts to that. I’m not joking.

In Build 42, you will be able transfer and combine liquids in different recipients. Not only that you will be able to carry fuel in whiskey bottles, but you will also have the fun of combining different types of liquids like soda with pure alcohol or wine and beer.

The interesting part is that these mixed fluids will also include the number of proteins, carbs and alcohol percentage, even when re-transferred, and the ratios will be set by the percentage of raw fluid that was mixed.

Fluids with poisonous proprieties will also be taken into consideration. All of these ratios will have a positive or negative effect on the player when consumed.

4. Crafting Overhaul

In Project Zomboid Build 42, the Crafting system will be improved.

The update will bring out new professions, items, working stations, a crafting tree and more. Items will also have RPG-oriented attributes which will be based on the crafter’s skills. The attributes will be influenced by the stats of the raw materials as well.

At some point, the update will present to the player new recipes and crafting possibilities and The Indie Stone are working on implementing this in a believable down-to-earth approach, looking at the fact that you are in a post-apocalyptic world at the end of the day, and as they’ve mentioned here, it would be hilarious to think that you could build nuclear reactors.

3. Basements

In Project Zomboid B42 some houses or buildings will have Basements, which will give the game a little more flavor.

Did you know that Project Zomboid‘s map is a static one? You might have figured it out, as elements like houses, roads, buildings etc. are not randomly generated. They are the same each time you create a new world. Other elements like cars, items, zeds, yes yes, I know, good old RNG comes in!

Well, Basements will be RNG-based as well. The Indie Stone made us aware in this in their article called Upstairs Downstairs, that the game will inject basements to certain houses or building the first time an area is streamed in for the first time.

You can check more details there, I’m not that smart to actually explain the logic, HAHA.

What’s cool about Basements is that some of them will not have a light switch, so inside of them it will be completely dark. Bring a torch! Or something with light in it!

For some players, this addition will bring more excitement, as during a loot run, they might find a house with a dark basement and a zed in it (or multiple), and boy-oh-boy, don’t we know how many jump-scare moments can Project Zomboid create. Beautiful!

Now, let’s go to

2. Map Expansion

Well, this is something I’ve been waiting for quite a while now. A map extension to our current one we have now in Build 41.

In their article called Broadened Horizons, The Indie Stone stated that this will most likely be happening in Build 42. They have offered us a sneak peak on where will they form new towns, building, farms and other, as you can see below.

The map expansion will be on all sides with the exception of the areas beyond the Ohio river. No solid information on this particular update so far from our devs, but I’m eager to see where do other zeds travel, roam or reside in Build 42.

You can check for more details in their article, but I think this will be an exciting addition for the veteran Project Zomboid players.

1. Livestock, Animals and Farming Overhaul

I’ve wrote an article fully dedicated to the future Build 42 content on Animals and Livestock. You can check it below.

Project Zomboid B42 – Animals announced so far

Project Zomboid’s B42 promises Animals and Livestock brought to the game, giving players the opportunity to expand their farms significantly.

In my opinion, this is the most impactful update that will be made to the game in Build 42. For all you farmers and base builders out there, your Zomboid life will change a lot. In a chickeny, cow milking and sheep shearing kinda way!

Project Zomboid B42 will introduce animals and livestock to the game and new game functionalities that will enable the player to create animal farms, collect valuable survival resources like eggs, milk, meat and wool.

Project Zomboid Build 42 Farms

Now, farms will also be changed here and there and improved. Here are some of the changes/additions.

  • Plants will have growing seasons and most of them will have 2 optimal planting periods.
  • Some plants can be planted by using the vegetable itself. Like a potato.
  • Herbs added. Rosemary confirmed.
  • Houseplants will be thirsty in Build 42 and can be vulnerable to diseases.

Conclusion

So, that’s my personal top of what’s coming next in Project Zomboid B42. Looking forward to new updates from The Indie Stone, until then, I’ll be waiting here on my low quality, newly and almost constructed woods cabin. Have fun!
